Bill to Encourage Private Electric Generation Approved
A new bill was approved by the House of People Representative which that allow private investors to produce electric power and sell it to the Ethiopian Electric Power Corporation(EEPCO).
The agency was delegated by the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MoME) to prepare the bill at the end of the 2008/09 fiscal year and submitted the first draft in September 2009. Later the agency proceeded to work on the second draft based on comments from over 100 stakeholders, including GTZ, Beta Engineering Service Plc, ACME engineering and Trading Plc and Green Techno Ethiopia.
According to the Ethiopian reporter Newspaper, this bill will replace the The Ethiopian Energy Agency (EEA) bill of 1989EC.
This Bill will be formed based on the existing bill and since electric power production investment is prone to various dangers, the agency that will be established by this bill will be expected to ease the situation for the power producing companies.
