Melaku Demissie, Managing Editor of Reporter (Amharic) has been taken into custody by Southern Nations Nationalities and Peoples Regional State (SNNPR) police earlier today.
Melaku was arrested over a news report that was published on the front page of the Amharic Reporter entitled SNNPR deputy presidents removed from post. The news report was retracted on the next edition of the newspaper. Melaku was taken to Hawassa in a Mahindra truck around noon local time.
The Hawassa stringer, who wrote the erroneous story, faced administrative measures after the editorial team discovered that the story was in fact wrong.
