Dibaba breaks world indoor 3000m record with 8:16.60 in Stockholm

fb2d167eETHIOPIA’S Genzebe Dibaba shattered the world indoor 3,000m record by more than seven seconds in Stockholm. Dibaba, 22, ran eight minutes 16.60 seconds to beat the 8:23.72 mark set by compatriot Meseret Defar in 2007.

It is the fastest 3,000m – indoors or outdoors – since 1993, with only Chinese trio Wang Junxia, Qu Yunxia and Zhang Linli ever running faster.

Dibaba, sister of three-time Olympic gold winner Tirunesh, also broke the indoor 1500m world record on Saturday.
